Enhanced Internet Essentials Program Means Faster Speeds, Incredible Value for Customers

Starting today, Internet Essentials will feature increased speeds of 75 Mbps for all new and existing customers – that’s 50 times faster than the speed when the program was launched.
In 2011 when Comcast first introduced Internet Essentials, the internet was fundamentally different. We were just getting used to the idea of tablets with the launch of the iPad, online banking was still gaining traction, and we didn’t Zoom into meetings.
Internet Essentials was different too. The program started out offering speeds of 1.5 Mbps, and it didn’t include WiFi – so users had to plug their computers directly into a modem to get online. It was also only available to families with a child eligible for free school lunch.
A lot has changed in that time, including the need to shift online for work and school, and to keep in touch with one another. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when other companies raised their prices, Comcast kept the price of Internet Essentials the same for our customers and implemented several enhancements, including speed increases and expanded eligibility.
To meet the ever-changing needs of our users, Internet Essentials has adapted over the years and expanded our reach 12 times so that all lower-income people in our footprint are eligible to sign up. Now with speeds of 75 Mbps and free WiFi included you can do everything faster and on multiple devices anywhere in the home at the same time. This means families can stream 4K content, work remotely, complete homework, and even access advanced healthcare services through telemedicine, all without missing a beat.
The newly enhanced Internet Essentials plan will be available for just $14.95 per month as we continue to deliver significant value to the product including free WiFi equipment, unlimited data, and access to more than 23 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots. Customers can purchase a discounted laptop and have access to free digital skills training. Together, these benefits represent an annual value of up to $780. This is the first time Comcast has adjusted the price of Internet Essentials, reflecting the comprehensive value of the service today.
Internet Essentials remains the industry leader, offering better value compared to similar plans from other major internet providers. It is also part of a robust range of affordable options that we make available to millions of customers, including Internet Essentials Plus, our NOW product line, and NOW WiFi Pass.
