What’s Behind the Faster WiFi In Colorado Springs?
On Aug. 22, Comcast launched multi-gigabit internet in Colorado Springs, making it the first community in the state to benefit from the company’s new 2-gig download tier.
In addition, Colorado Springs customers are starting to experience a noticeable jump in upload speeds, in some cases, 10-times faster than before.
It’s a difference that’s hard to miss. For example, a digital video editor working from home in Colorado Springs using Xfinity internet can suddenly upload a hefty video file in a fraction of the time it took before.
All of this is being delivered with minimal disruption to customers. Yards and neighborhoods are also spared; the same lines that carry Xfinity Internet today are the same that will deliver 10-gig (10G) speeds to tens of millions of homes and businesses in the coming years.
How is it possible? Over the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $1.2 billion in Colorado’s broadband network, doubling capacity over that time while making the operating system that powers it smarter and more efficient. Part of that investment also includes 300 miles of fiber installed just in Colorado Springs, built to light up every zip code within the city limits.

By investing in infrastructure upgrades that ensure secure, reliable connectivity for all our residents and businesses, installing free Community WiFi Lift Zones, and supporting Olympic City USA in a variety of ways, Comcast has shown a commitment to Colorado Springs and to ensuring our city is preparing for tomorrow – today.
Future-proofing Colorado Springs with 10G-capable broadband is just one benefit to Comcast’s continued investment in Colorado. Here's a comprehensive look at Comcast's other commitments:
Since 2011, Comcast has connected nearly 600,000 income-constrained Coloradans to the Internet through its Internet Essentials Program: the nation’s largest and most successful private-sector, low-income broadband adoption program. The program provides income-eligible people the ability to connect to the Internet for $9.95 per month. Additionally, Comcast participates in the Federal Affordable Connectivity Program which provides eligible individuals a $30 per month credit for the Internet service.
Comcast has also worked with its network of nonprofit, community, and city partners to equip nearly 100 locations across Colorado with WiFi-connected Lift Zones, where students and adults can get online, participate in learning and workforce development trainings, and access critical resources.
