Employees Drive Spirit of Volunteerism on Comcast Cares Day and All Year Round

Throughout the last several weeks, thousands of volunteers have given their time and energy to participate in service projects in hundreds of communities nationwide and around the globe.  Those efforts were part of the lead up to today’s companywide celebration of Comcast Cares Day, one of the largest corporate commitments to volunteerism and service in America.  From coast to coast and in 22 countries abroad, our employees – including our new colleagues at Sky, friends, family members, nonprofit partners, and local leaders, worked together to improve their communities and bring one of our company’s greatest traditions to life.

Comcast NBCUniversal is committed to making a lasting impact in the communities we serve — and that goes back to our company’s roots and the values established by our founder, Ralph Roberts.  Giving back through service is a direct way to make a positive difference, and our employees continue to drive this spirit of volunteerism both on this day and throughout the year.

I’ve had the pleasure of being involved with Comcast Cares Day since its beginning in 2001, and I continue to be consistently amazed each year by the enthusiasm our volunteers bring.  This year, I traveled to Colorado Springs, also known as Olympic City USA, alongside twin sisters Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux- Morando, two of the leaders of the recent U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Women’s Hockey Team.  

Yesterday, an incredible young woman who was recently named Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region Youth of the Year hosted us at the Club, where Jocelyne and Monique shared their Olympic journey with the members.  We then returned to the Club today for a revitalization project to clean up the grounds and do repairs on the building.

The project at the Boys & Girls Club directly followed an opportunity this morning to improve another neighborhood mecca – the Hillside Community Center.  Comcast customer service agents and their families supported the center’s redevelopment efforts by landscaping the garden and children’s areas, painting the outdoor park pavilion and indoor gymnasium area, and planting vines and plants.

During my travels to Colorado Springs, I had the opportunity to recognize a few incredible employees who have demonstrated a strong commitment to year-round service.  From creating community groups that beautify and clean up local dog parks, to providing general maintenance at various regional Boys & Girls Clubs, they truly exemplify what makes Comcast a special company.

Our efforts in Colorado followed a project we held Thursday in New York City with the Taproot Foundation. About 40 NBCUniversal employees worked alongside representatives from 15 nonprofits to help solve critical challenges within their areas of expertise, such as finance, HR and marketing/communications.  It was a fast-paced, dynamic program designed to offer maximum engagement and positive impact, and I’m glad I had the chance to be part of it.
