Screen on the Green is Back in DC for Another Summer
Just in time to get summer planning started, today HBO and Comcast announced that DC’s favorite outdoor movie festival, "Screen on the Green," will be back for another season. Last year when it looked like without co-sponsors the show might not go on, there was an outpouring of support for the event on Facebook and Twitter. Comcast was proud to help save "Screen on the Green" last year and to co-sponsor it again this year.
And what a way to open the festival on the National Mall with Sean Connery in Goldfinger on July 12th, one of my favorite Bond movies. Another iconic film, Bonnie and Clyde will be this year’s last movie on August 2nd.
The best parts of "Screen on the Green" on the Mall are the fervent fans, who come year after year, braving DC’s sweltering summer temperatures and sometimes uncertain skies (I never got to see the end of Rebel Without a Cause last year because of a storm), by the thousands bringing friends and generations of families together in one huge outdoor living room. Check out this video with interviews from last year’s festival.
This year, Comcast is trying something new with our recently expanded Video-On-Demand capability in the DC area – "Screen on the Green" in your living room. During July and August we’ll have a special folder in the "Get Local" section of Comcast Video-On-Demand that will have 20 favorite movies from "Screen on the Green" over the years. Movies like All the President’s Men, Casablanca, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Rocky, Singin In the Rain, The Candidate, The Philadelphia Story, Strangers On A Train, The Maltese Falcon, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Superman and Viva Las Vegas. And I’ll finally get to see the end of Rebel Without a Cause.
For more information, call the "Screen on the Green" hotline at 1-877-262-5866 or visit the festival’s website at http://www.moviefone.com/screen-on-the-green.
See you on the Mall on July 12 for Goldfinger.
