Mirror Digital Brings Digital Advertising Opportunities to Multicultural Creators
Digital media company Mirror Digital was founded by LA native Sheila Marmon in 2012, to help connect niche digital media publishers with Fortune 500 brands in the national media market. With a network of over 850 digital creators it is the largest digital media company exclusively focused on the multicultural consumer market.
Since 2014, Mirror Digital has been one of the more than 3,000 companies in Comcast NBCUniversal’s supplier diversity network, which is designed to promote, increase, and improve the participation of diverse businesses within our corporate supply chain. Mirror Digital’s relationship with Comcast began with Universal Pictures and the company soon began providing services to NBC Entertainment. More recently, they have been an integral partner in the launch of Comcast RISE, a program created to provide valuable and practical support to Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)-owned small businesses. For Sheila, the relationship has been transformational.
“Opportunities with partners like Comcast are critical for growing companies like ours to help take us to the next level. The consistent partnership allows us to build capacity and bring on additional employees and resources, which is key to helping promising companies helmed by diverse entrepreneurs scale,” says Marmon.
For over a decade, Comcast and NBCUniversal’s uniquely designed Supplier Diversity Programs have focused on direct business-to-business outreach and partnership with advocacy organizations that help build capacity for, and make connections with, diverse vendors. To support the growth of suppliers like Mirror Digital, NBCUniversal’s EDGE (Entrepreneurs Driving Growth & Excellence) Accelerator was created in 2017 as the first-ever media based program committed to the development of, and investment in diverse-owned companies representing media, marketing, production and digital technology. The intensive program brings 8-10 business owners together with NBCUniversal executives and academic experts and equips them with insights and opportunities to help them win business.
“Participating in the EDGE program was really a robust and rewarding experience. Not only did we learn so much from the NBCU executives and business school professors but there was also an amazing level of peer-to-peer learning with the other entrepreneurs, and we continue to partner with some of them to this day,” says Marmon.
Like Comcast NBCUniversal, Mirror Digital believes in the power of diverse voices and is the importance of reflecting, supporting and amplifying multicultural creators. For Marmon, it’s one of the most gratifying parts of her work.
“Launching and growing Mirror Digital has been tremendously rewarding. My experience and my passions are tailored to meet this moment to support diverse creators in the digital space. Additionally, I have the opportunity to identify and groom the young, diverse talent who work with me everyday. Not only do I get to introduce them to the digital media and ad tech industries, Mirror Digital serves as a model for how people of color can build their own businesses in the innovation economy and beyond. Everyday I wake up excited about what lies ahead for me, my team, and the firm,” says Marmon.
