Kathy Kelly-Brown: 'Symphony' in Action

Kathy Kelly Brown, Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives

Kathy Kelly Brown leads Symphony, Comcast NBCUniversal’s initiative that works to leverage both Comcast Cable’s and NBCUniversal’s unparalleled assets to maximize consumer awareness and engagement.

Q: Tell me about your career path at Comcast. How did you get to where you are?

A: I’ve held a number of great positions here – initially with NBC Entertainment, then with the Corporate Communications team in New York. I led News Communications for a while and even had the opportunity to launch a new division within the Company -- Global Talent Booking.

I've been very fortunate to have had managers who were willing to support me taking on new challenges, so I've been able to continue to develop my career while staying part of a company that I love.

Q: Tell me about Comcast NBCUniversal’s Symphony strategy.

A: I think we have the best portfolio in the business. Symphony is all about working together to use the power of the all of the individual brands to support the priorities of the combined company.

Whether it be a film or television premiere, a theme park opening or a huge sports event like the Olympics, it's incredible to see the entire organization pull together around a common goal. It's a big part of our culture and it's great that everyone can share in our collective success because they've genuinely played a part in it.

Q: Can you give me an example of Symphony in action?

A: The Olympics is probably the best example of how the company rallies around a big Symphony initiative. It’s truly extraordinary to be part of it. And now that Comcast is an official partner of Team USA, it will be bigger and better than ever.

Q: Tell me about a proud career moment.

A: I’d say being given the opportunity to take on the Symphony role is a proud moment for me. It is such a special thing to this Company -- often called the “secret sauce” for our success -- and it’s a privilege to work with the people who bring it to life.

Q: How would you describe Comcast’s culture?

A: Innovative. Whether it’s creating hit films and television shows, dreaming up the best new theme park experiences or developing a technology that customers love, there is always something being created that’s new and exciting.
