Tips for Preventing the Digital Holiday Headaches
Between shopping online for the perfect gift, traveling to see family and friends, or hosting visitors, the holidays can be a busy and stressful time. Here are four tips for preventing digital distractions from getting in the way of holiday celebrations so you can make the most of this magical time of year.
Screen time can quickly get in the way of family time, and when everyone gathers from near and far over the holidays, parents can use simple tools to help set and enforce screen time rules. New enhancements to the xFi WiFi Pause feature allows parents to set up 30 screen times schedules per profile, so all the devices a child uses can be paused during family game night, visits from grandma, piano practice and more. This gives parents the flexibility to help ensure that kids put down their devices during the holidays and make the most of time with their family members.
Don’t let your holiday packages fall victim to porch pirates. Last year’s survey commissioned by Comcast and conducted by Wakefield Research, found that nearly one in four people reported being a victim of package theft and nearly half know someone who has had a package stolen. Home security systems like Xfinity Home, or connected cameras, are a great way to keep an eye on your packages and the activity in front of your home while you’re away. Last year we launched security camera features designed to help consumers better spot package thefts this holiday season, including the ability to filter motion-triggered activity by people, vehicles or pets.
This holiday season, as new tech toys and devices come onto your network you’ll want to keep them safe from malware and other security threats. Protect your home WiFi network and the devices connected to it with Xfinity xFi Advanced Security, which monitors and blocks threats to consumers connected devices. xFi Advanced Security has a simple user interface, and informs consumers of blocked threats, and when necessary, provides instructions on how to further secure affected devices.
If you’re hosting friends and family this holiday season, you’ll soon find that an influx of guests means an influx of questions about how to join your home WiFi network. Using the xFi app on X1 you can quickly and easily share your WiFi password with your guests using the Xfinity Voice Remote by simply saying “what’s my WiFi password?”.
