XFINITY TV Viewers Can't Get Enough Bridesmaids, Tosh.0, Spongebob Squarepants and Beyonce; Most-Watched Entertainment Choices Recognized as 2011 XFINITY On Demand Award Winners
Comcast's Xfinity TV announced the winners of the 2011 Xfinity On Demand Awards, which honor the movies, TV series, kids series and musical artists that customers watched most on the service during the course of the year.
The overall most-viewed award winners for 2011 are: Bridesmaids, Tosh.0, SpongeBob SquarePants and Beyoncé. In addition, 2011 marked significant growth on the service with a 10 percent increase in views on Xfinity On Demand year-over-year and a surge in average views per month from 350 million to 400 million, making 2011 the year with the most views in the service's history.
"Over the years we have seen the appetite for on-demand programming rapidly increase, in fact, 2011 marked the fastest growth we have seen on our service in the past several years," said Maggie McLean Suniewick, Vice President, Video Services, Comcast. "With nearly five billion views on Xfinity On Demand last year alone, these award winners truly represent which entertainment choices pop culture is embracing, and we congratulate the winners as true standouts in their genres."
In addition to the overall most-viewed winners, the 2011 Xfinity On Demand Awards recognize the top-performers in specific categories including most-viewed new release movies by genre: action, comedy, drama, horror, indie and kids/family; the most-viewed TV series by genre: comedy, drama, reality and kids; and the most-viewed musical artists by genre: country, hip-hop, pop, R&B and rock (click here to see the full list of winners and to watch Wendi McLendon-Covey accept the 2011 Xfinity On Demand Award for Most-Viewed New Release Movie on behalf of Bridesmaids). This year, comedies dominated both movies and TV series while R&B was the top-performer in music. Hit movies released on Xfinity On Demand the same day as the DVD release also performed extremely well.

Since 2003, views on Xfinity On Demand increased from 200 million to more than 23 billion. In the same time period, entertainment choices on the service grew from approximately 740 selections to more than 30,000, giving customers anytime access to current popular TV series, new release movies, kids programming, indie films, movie collections, editorial selections, activities for kids and families, exclusive content, sports and specials.
