NBC Sports Group Wins 9 Sports Emmy Awards

Bob Costas Wins 28th Sports Emmy; Mike “Doc” Emrick Wins Sports Emmy for 4th Consecutive Year; Andres Cantor Wins 2nd Sports Emmy

NBC Sports Group tonight won nine Sports Emmy Awards for excellence in sports television production, highlighted by four awards for its coverage of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Sunday Night Football’s eighth award for outstanding live sports series in nine years; and individual honors for Bob Costas, Mike "Doc" Emrick, and Andres Cantor. The awards were presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

NBCUniversal’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics earned four Sports Emmys – two for NBC, and one apiece for and Telemundo/NBC Universo.

Sunday Night Football, primetime television’s No. 1 show for a record six consecutive years, won for Outstanding Live Sports Series for the eighth time in nine years.

Golf Channel earned a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Short Feature with Golf Central’s "Don’t Cry for Me – The Ryan Korengel Story," the network’s first win in a feature category.

NBC Sports Group also accounted for three of the six on-air talent awards:

  • Bob Costas was named Outstanding Sports Personality-Studio Host, his 28th career Emmy, and sixth in the past seven years. Costas served as NBC’s primetime host for the 2016 Rio Olympics and host of Football Night in America, the most-watched weekly studio show in sports.

  • Mike "Doc" Emrick, who leads NBC Sports’ NHL broadcast team, won his fourth consecutive Emmy and fifth in seven years for Outstanding Sports Personality-Play by Play.

  • Andres Cantor (Telemundo/NBC Universo), who called the gold medal game at the Rio Olympics among his many soccer assignments, earned his second Sports Emmy.
