NBC Nightly News Continues Total Viewer Stronghold

According to Nielsen Media Research data for the week ending April 11, 2014, more Americans turned to NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams than any other newscast.

Season-to-date, Nightly is averaging the most growth year-to-year (+7 percent, or +646,000) while widening its lead over ABC by +48 percent versus the comparable period last year. Also season-to-date, Nightly is currently posting its biggest total viewer audience (9.421 million) since the 2005-06 season and its largest advantage over ABC (+1,163,000) since the 2009-10 season.

Note: CBS is based on a four-day average (Tue.-Fri.) due to the NCAA championship game on Monday. Nightly was preempted in the Philadelphia market on Tuesday due Major League Baseball and was impacted by technical problems in the St. Louis market on Monday and Tuesday.

 

Weekly Highlights:

  • Nightly delivered 8.175 million total viewers, +797,000 more than ABC World News’ 7.378 million and +1,809,000 more than CBS Evening News’ 6.366 million. 
  • Nightly averaged a 5.6/11 Household rating, ahead of ABC’s 4.9/10 and CBS’ 4.3/9.
  • Nightly delivered a 1.6 A25-54 rating, tied for No. 1 with ABC and +4 tenths more than CBS’s 1.2 rating.
  • Among A25-54 (000), Nightly averaged 1.870 million viewers, +375,000 ahead of Evening News’ 1.495 million.

Trends:

  • Nightly has won in total viewers for 239 consecutive weeks, and in 286 of the past 287 weeks.

  • Nightly has been No. 1 in A25-54 rating for 284 consecutive weeks.
