NBC Brings Tradition Home for the Holidays
The Making of the Sound of Music Live! (Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 8 p.m.): NBC will air a behind-the-scenes special about the making of The Sound of Music Live! The special promises to take viewers into the recording studio with stars Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer as they record the companion soundtrack to the Dec. 5 special live presentation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. "The Making of The Sound of Music Live!" will also focus on the casting and rehearsal process of the anticipated live event.
SNL Thanksgiving Special (Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 9 p.m. ET): This holiday special is a two-hour compilation of memorable Thanksgiving and family-themed moments from SNL. Sketches include "Debbie Downer", "Paul's Monologue Worries," "The Ladies' Man," "The Bird Family," "Adam Sandler's Turkey Song," "Martha Stewart Living," "Nikey Turkey," "Big Kids," "Fuzzy Memories," "Ed Grimley's Thanksgiving," "Dysfunctional Family Dinner," "Swerski's Super Fans' Thanksgiving," "The Loud Family," and "Greetings from Tonto, Tarzan, and Frankenstein."
The Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (Thursday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.): The nation’s most beloved spectacle, the Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®, returns for the 87th year of magic on Thursday, Nov. 28 (9 a.m.-noon) throughout the country on NBC. To kick off the holiday season, more than 8,000 participants will march through the streets of Manhattan at the sound of the time-honored words "Let’s Have a Parade™." Against a backdrop of more than 3.5 million spectators and more than 50 million viewers nationwide, the parade’s signature elements, including its giant balloons, floats of fantasy, performers and the one-and-only Santa Claus, will ring in the holiday season with unrivaled celebration.
The National Dog Show Presented by Purina (Thursday, Nov. 28 at 12 noon): Celebrating America’s continued fascination with man’s best friend, "The National Dog Show Presented by Purina" is hosted by actor, author and Broadway star John O’Hurley ("Seinfeld," "Dancing with the Stars") and expert analyst David Frei, an AKC-licensed judge and host of USA Network’s "The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show." NBC’s Mary Carillo will report from the benching area and inside the show ring. The telecast will showcase some 1,500 purebred canines competing for the title of "Best in Show," with $20,000 in prize money and enormous prestige at stake. Unlike traditional dog show coverage, the National Dog Show offers the country’s 65 million pet-owning households an afternoon of family-oriented features, facilitated by the open format of the Kennel Club of Philadelphia event. As one of the only remaining "benched" dog shows, all of the competing breeds are on display all day for the visiting public. An encore airs Saturday night at 8 p.m.
Sunday Night Football (Thursday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m.): The Ravens host the Steelers on NBC’s annual Thanksgiving night game. NBC will broadcast a Thanksgiving night game each season through 2022. Sunday Night Football resumes it's returns to its customary time slot Sunday when the Redskins host the Giants Dec. 1.
