Impacting Our Communities from Coast to Coast
From the student in Sacramento who is realizing her dream to attend college, to the leader of a Boston nonprofit whose organization has benefitted from our donated airtime for a PSA, to the Comcast employee in Houston who is surprised at how mentoring a "Little Brother" has tremendously changed his life as well, these stories continue to inspire our daily call to support the communities we serve.
Here are a few more highlights of this work over the past few months:
-
In March, our Internet Essentials broadband adoption program was recognized for innovation by the T. Howard Foundation during the organization’s annual celebration of diversity in New York City.
-
In April, as you can see in the video above, we mobilized a company record 95,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to make change happen in our communities nationwide, and in 14 other countries around the globe.
-
In May and June, we awarded nearly $2 million in college scholarships to honor the country’s brightest and most community-minded high school seniors.
It all comes down to impact.
For example, through our investment of more than $165 million in cash and in-kind support to fund digital literacy initiatives nationally since 2011, we and our community partners have provided free digital literacy training and education to more than 1.6 million people. That’s larger than the entire population of our corporate hometown of Philadelphia! From equipping these individuals with the knowledge to navigate the Internet safely, to learning how to find employment and access critical resources online, we are committed to empowering people through technology to help them improve their lives.
This fall, we will work with longtime partner Boys & Girls Clubs of America to launch My.Future, a new digital literacy program to help youth keep up with the ever-changing pace of technology. I invite you to explore Inside CI to learn more about My.Future and the other exciting ways our team partners with so many of you to impact lives from coast to coast.
Sincerely,
