Half of U.S. Households to Own High-Definition Televisions by End of Year

According to a recent independent study* by Leichtman Research Group, nearly 50 percent of U.S. households will own a HDTV by the end of the year, prompting Comcast to remind consumers this holiday season not to forget the HD service when buying a HDTV to ensure they are benefiting from the full HD experience. The independent study also found that just 36 percent of HDTV owners say that they were told how to receive HD programming when they purchased their HDTV.

"HDTV shoppers remember...HDTVs aren't HD unless you get HD service," said Derek Harrar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Video and Entertainment Services for Comcast. "With more than 2,600 HD entertainment choices, our customers enjoy the best HD experience."

Comcast HD customers can enjoy thousands of hit movies, TV series and more On Demand in HD, anytime including all of the Star Trek movies, Terminator Salvation, Four Christmases, Julie & Julia, 30 Rock, Community, CSI, Heroes, NCIS and Two and a Half Men. This holiday season, consumers can give Comcast's HD service as a gift by purchasing Comcast gift cards, which can also be used for video, voice or Internet service and are available in increments from $5 to $500.  The Comcast gift cards can be purchased online (www.comcast.com/giftcards), making it simple for consumers to give friends or family instant entertainment.

Comcast's initiative to offer more HD choices is part of Project Infinity, the company's commitment to deliver exponentially more quality content choice on TV, including more HD, sports, movies, kids' programs and network TV shows.  Currently, Comcast's extensive On Demand library offers customers 17,000+ programs over the course of a month.  Comcast customers view On Demand programs 350 million times each month.
