Give Your Home a Gift This Holiday: Comcast Offers Customers Free Wireless Routers to Help Power the Connected Home
Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), one of the nation's leading providers of entertainment, information and communications products and services, today announced plans to offer customers an all-in-one solution to help power the WiFi-enabled devices expected to arrive in their homes this holiday season. The Xfinity Wireless Gateway includes a wireless router and gives today's connected home everything needed to create a fast, efficient and secure home network. Additionally, with a variety of support plans offered via Xfinity Signature Support, customers can call on their own personal IT department for help with any aspect of their connected home - from networking, to virus removal, to software and hardware troubleshooting.
According to recent research by Forrester and Yankee Group, Comcast estimates that by 2015 its customers will own more than 234 million Internet connected devices, or up to six per household. Whether tablets, gaming consoles, smartphones or connected TVs, American homes are becoming more connected with more devices.
"Just in time for the holidays, the new Xfinity Wireless Gateway helps power the connected home with a fast, easy and convenient way to get connected," said Cathy Avgiris, Senior Vice President of Communications and Data Services at Comcast. "As consumers bring more wireless devices into their homes, the Wireless Gateway ensures these customers get the speeds they need to have a great experience."
Specifically, the Xfinity Wireless Gateway includes:
A wireless router (802.11 WiFi-N) to create a fast home network and support dozens of connected devices,
A cable modem (DOCSIS 3.0) to enable access to Xfinity Internet service, and
A voice adapter (VoIP) for Xfinity Voice services.
The gateway, which is maintained by Comcast, frees customers from worrying about replacing or repairing their own routers or modems and eliminates a number of devices from cluttered desktop areas by combining what was formerly three different devices into one. Offered to new Blast!, Extreme 50 and Extreme 105 Xfinity Internet customers, the Xfinity Wireless Gateway includes a wireless router at no additional charge beyond the standard equipment rental fee.
Customers concerned about the complexity of setting up and managing a connected home can sign up for their own personal IT "help desk" via Xfinity Signature Support. Xfinity Signature Support offers a range of services for customers looking for 24/7 tech support from experienced and knowledgeable specialists, including total network support for computers, wired and wireless devices; removal of viruses, malware and spyware; and computer tune-ups to help improve speed, performance and online security.
