In 2014, Universal Pictures and Focus Features released multiple films with key diverse talent, characters, and themes.

In January, "Ride Along" starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, directed by Tim Story, and produced by Will Packer, was released. July saw the release of "Lucy", an action-thriller starring Scarlet Johansson and produced by Virginie Silla. In August, audiences could see Chadwick Boseman depicting James Brown in "Get On Up." "The Theory of Everything," an Academy Award-winning biopic centered on Stephen Hawking’s diagnosis and life with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), was released in November. Closing out the year, "Unbroken," directed by Angelina Jolie and based on Laura Hillenbrand’s novel about Olympian and war hero Louis Zamperini, was released in December.
