Comcast and NBCUniversal Diversity Councils Ranked Among the Top in the U.S.
Comcast and NBCUniversal’s diversity council was ranked fifth among the "Top 25 U.S. Diversity Councils" by Prism International, Inc. and The Association of Diversity Councils at the Fall 2012 Association of Diversity Councils Awards in Washington, D.C. The prestigious Diversity Council Honors Award recognizes and awards the outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity council groups that lead organizational diversity processes and demonstrate results in their workforce, workplace and marketplace.
Comcast and NBCUniversal were recognized specifically for our cross-company Internal Diversity Councils, our external Joint Diversity Advisory Council and our Internet Essentials program.
"We are thrilled to receive this award. It is a significant achievement for Comcast and NBCUniversal to rank in the top five this year," said Maria G. Arias, Executive Director of Diversity and Inclusion for Comcast Corporation. "We have an exceptional external Joint Diversity Advisory Council to advise our combined company’s diversity efforts, and we’re making great strides in launching new and innovative channels and philanthropic programs related to diversity and inclusion. We’re committed for the long-term and strive to be the industry model for diversity and inclusion."
Comcast and NBCUniversal’s external Joint Diversity Advisory Council brings together leading members of several external organizations and minority groups to advise the senior executive teams at Comcast and NBCUniversal on diversity efforts and initiatives. The council consists of four Diversity Advisory Councils, representing the interests of African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics and women. The Council also has members representing veterans, Native Americans, people with disabilities, and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, as well as representatives of the companies’ Internal Diversity Councils. Throughout the year, the Internal Diversity Councils hold meetings to review quarterly reports on programs, initiatives and plans surrounding our company’s five focus areas — Governance, Our People, Supplier Diversity, Programming and Community Investment.
