Comcast and Planeta Networks Team to Deliver Best-In Class Hispanic Multimedia Content on Comcast.net
PHILADELPHIA, PA and CORAL GABLES, FL
Comcast, the nation's premier high-speed Internet provider, and Planeta Networks, Inc.(TM), a leading provider of Spanish-language Digital Media Solutions, announced today that they have teamed together to offer a co-branded Spanish-language site. Available for Comcast.net customers at no extra charge, this site augments the content currently available via Comcast.net. Comcast's http://onda.comcast.net, powered by PlanetaTV, features must-see interactive media. Film trailers, music videos and behind-the-scenes interviews with Hispanic entertainment and sports icons, plus in-country video feeds available either live or on-demand from many of Latin America's premier news originators, are just a few of the first-class features offered on this co-branded site. Comcast High-Speed Internet customers can also select from 18 different Hispanic music radio channels, including salsa, merengue, nortena, boleros and more.
According to a recent study by comScore Media Metrix, approximately 49 percent of the 12.5 million U.S. Hispanic Internet users either prefer to speak Spanish only, or a mix of Spanish and English. The Comcast/Planeta Networks relationship seeks to serve this need by providing compelling and relevant information to Spanish-speaking Comcast High-Speed Internet customers.
"Recognizing the need to serve our nation's growing Hispanic community, PlanetaTV is a welcome addition to our ongoing effort to offer our customers an unparalleled broadband experience," said Greg Butz, senior vice president for Marketing and Business Development for Comcast High-Speed Internet. "By delivering a best-in-class Spanish-language Broadband Channel to our content lineup, the Comcast.net online experience should prove more relevant and engaging for our growing base of Hispanic customers."
"Planeta Networks is delighted to be teaming up with Comcast High-Speed Internet. Given Comcast's sheer size and coverage, this agreement greatly augments our ability to deliver best-quality rich media to Hispanic broadband subscribers nationally," said Vincent Burniske, vice president of Business and Content Development for Planeta Networks.
The multimedia site offers access to 16 premier channels of both live and on-demand, high-quality video content - more than 12,000 segments - from a full range of entertainment, sports and lifestyle categories, plus constantly updated news services from the top markets in Spanish-speaking Latin America and Spain.
