Comcast and NBCUniversal Receive Top Programmer and Top MSO for Women

At Comcast and NBCUniversal, our women leaders are among the most esteemed difference makers in our industry.

During the 2014 NCTA Conference, Comcast and NBCUniversal received Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Top Programmer and Top MSO (tied for first with Cox Communications) for Women awards.

"These awards signify the highest honors within the media and technology industry for cable operations and cable programming for women. They  are a significant testament to the powerful impact women are having on our businesses in providing invaluable and visible leadership in the distribution and creation of quality programming for our customers and audiences," said David L. Cohen, Comcast Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, accepting the awards on behalf of the company.

During his acceptance remarks, David recognized Cathy Avgiris as an example of the influence of women leaders across the company.  "Cathy joined Comcast in June of 1992 as a Regional Vice President of Finance.  After spending a decade leading the roll outs of Comcast’s fantastic Internet and phone service products, and implementing an unprecedented field operations plan that cut Comcast’s cable installation time in half, Cathy was named the first female Chief Financial Officer of Comcast. Cable Women leaders at Comcast and NBCUniversal have a habit of excellence.  They consistently apply the lessons and skills gained from the many hats they wear – both professional and personal – to make our businesses thrive, every day," said Cohen.

Nearly 40 percent of all director-level leaders at Comcast and NBCUniversal are women, and women also hold more than one third of all positions at the Vice President-level and above as of year-end 2013.

During the awards luncheon, WICT also recognized the company’s commitment to recruiting top female talent, providing development and mentorship opportunities, and working diligently to increase the number of women at every level of our organization, with special attention to promoting our top female talent into the executive levels.

2014 marks the first time Comcast earned WICT’s Top MSO for Women award.
