Chadwick Boseman Hypnotizes Fans in Get On Up

Critics have called Chadwick Boseman's portrayal of funk icon James Brown in Universal Pictures' Get On Up “electrifying,” “unforgettable,” and “sensational.”

Get On Up, The James Brown Story, takes viewers on an incredible journey through the life of the Godfather of Soul, with a look inside his music, impoverished childhood, and evolution into one of the most influential musical figures of the 20 century. Chadwick Boseman, 42’s Jackie Robinson and Draft Day’s Vontae Mack, was cast in the starring role.

Time magazine’s Richard Corliss said, "[Boseman] is obliged to predict an aisle seat for Boseman on Oscar night. Incarnating James Brown in all his ornery uniqueness, Boseman deserves a Pulitzer, a Nobel, and instant election to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

Boseman believed no one should play James Brown, however Tate Taylor, director of Get On Up and The Help, knew that Boseman was "the one [for the role]," within just 20 seconds of his audition.

Boseman discusses the challenges of playing the role of James Brown in an interview with TODAY host Matt Lauer.
