Cast of The Office Reflects on 9 Successful Seasons

The May 16 farewell includes a one-hour retrospective beginning at 8 p.m. ET featuring interviews with writers, producers and actors, followed by an extended final episode airing at 9. Meanwhile, watch a web exclusive cast farewell here.

About the show

NBC's award-winning series, based on the acclaimed BBC cult hit of the same name, brought documentary-style comedy to the United States and shaped primetime television over a groundbreaking, nine-season stay on NBC's Thursday night line-up.

Set in a Scranton, Pa. paper supply company, the show parodied an often unpleasant and comically awkward life in a typical office setting and helped launch the careers of Steve Carell, Mindy Kaling, John Krasinski, Jenn Fischer and a host of others while establishing itself as a hit among audiences and critics alike.

The Office earned a 2006 Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, 2006 Peabody Award, 2006 and 2008 AFI Honors, Producers Guild Award, Writers Guild Award, SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy, Ace Eddie Award for editing and a Television Critic's Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.

About the finale

The 8 p.m. retrospective of The Office features interviews with the show's writing staff, producers and actors, including John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson and Paul Lieberstein. The special also takes a look inside the writers' room, previously unseen actor auditions and recounts favorite moments from the cast.

In the 9 p.m. extended finale, it's months after the documentary airs and past and present staffers gather for a wedding and their closing interview sessions. A star-studded roster, including Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, Joan Cusack, Ed Begley Jr., Rachael Harris, Dakota Johnson, Andy Buckley, and Malcolm Barrett, are slated to appear.
