Once again, millions of viewers across the country cleared their calendars for seven full days of nothing but binge watching the best TV of the season during Xfinity Watchathon Week. As the one of the most anticipated TV weeks of the year, Xfinity TV customers broke every prior viewing record across platforms, catching up on more than 56 million hours the year’s most buzzed about shows—up 13% from last year’s event. And for the first time ever, Xfinity On Demand exceeded one million consecutive Xfinity On Demand streams on both Friday and Saturday of Watchathon.
TV Everywhere momentum has been continually growing, with marquee events like the Olympics, World Cup and March Madness attracting record audiences. While live sports was an initial driver of TV Everywhere consumption, it has also become a go-to viewing platform for all genres of entertainment. In fact, Xfinity TV customers watched more than 3 million hours of comedies, dramas and reality TV on Xfinity TV Go and programmer apps throughout Watchathon Week, up 64 percent from last year’s event.
This is even more evident when you look at some of the numbers behind HBO’s Game of Thrones, the most-viewed show during Xfinity Watchathon Week 2015. Within the first three days, the season five premiere was viewed 3.2 million times across Xfinity TV platforms. For the first time, time-shifted viewing across TV Everywhere platforms kept pace with VOD and DVR consumption—with 653,000 on Xfinity On Demand, 699,000 on the DVR, and 660,000 on Xfinity TV Go and HBO GO—confirming that the viewing preferences of our customers continue to evolve.
Plans for next year’s event are already underway as we begin to compile the biggest and best selection of current season programming for the year’s ultimate TV catch up. Didn’t get to everything on your binge list during Watchathon week? Not to worry, Xfinity On Demand has more than 50,000 shows and movies for you to enjoy all year long.
