Smart home devices continue to grow in popularity. People are adding new cameras, thermostats and appliances all the time, but anyone who owns a few of these connected things knows that the "total home" experience can sometimes be clumsy and inefficient. One app to turn off the lights, another to unlock the door, and so on.

The Xfinity Home team wants to change that by creating a single platform that ties together a wide range of home automation controls and experiences. We took a big step earlier this year by announcing partnerships with a few best in class device manufactures and now, the first group of these integrations into our platform are complete.

Starting today, Xfinity Home customers are now able to control the August Smart Lock, Chamberlain MyQ garage controller, and the Lutron Caséta wireless light controller and dimmer directly through the Xfinity Home app on both iOS and Android devices. In addition, Xfinity Home now works with the Nest Learning Thermostat.

Over the past few months, our team has been working on a Software Development Kit (SDK) that makes it easier than ever before for partners to integrate their smart devices into the Xfinity Home ecosystem. This includes a testing and certification program to ensure all hardware that integrates with Xfinity Home meets key levels of quality, compatibility and security. Smart devices that have gone through our process will be certified under the "Works with Xfinity Home" program and will eventually include branding that makes it easy for customers to identify compatible smart home devices when shopping online and in retail stores.

Eventually, our customers also will be able to control all of these smart home devices through their TV via the X1 platform and our Voice Remote. In addition, the SDK and connectivity options will use open standards like Wi-Fi and well documented APIs to make it that much easier to integrate.

So if you’re an Xfinity Home customer who already has, or is looking to buy, one of the Nest, August, Lutron or Chamberlain devices listed above, we hope your life just got a little simpler. And if you’re a developer building the next great smart home or home security device and want to partner with us, just visit https://partner.xfinity.com/ to get started.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
