Marching Toward One Million Hotspots: Building the WiFi Network of the Future
We’ve put WiFi at the center of our strategy to offer our customers the best online experience, whether it’s the fastest WiFi experience in the home, a fast and reliable WiFi environment outside the home, and within small businesses. When we announced our initiative to create millions of neighborhood hotspots last year, we introduced another way for our customers to stay connected by providing them with mobile Internet access in ways they’ve never seen before. The results are better and easier access to Xfinity WiFi while at home or on the go.
Robert Channick's article in the Chicago Tribune discusses the trajectory of our WiFi plan. Here’s a quote from the article:
"The Utopian ideal of a massive, free Wi-Fi network has been around since the early days of Wi-Fi, but there was never an economically viable path to deliver it," Craig Moffett, a senior analyst at MoffettNathanson, a telecommunications and cable research firm, said. "Comcast has a better shot at it than just about anybody else."
