Comcast Celebrates Independent Films
We are committed to bringing our customers more independent films and to making indie films more accessible to our customers through our On Demand and online platforms. This year, we made several strides on that front with partnerships with the Tribeca Film Festival, SnagFilms and now with Edward Burns. Our partnership with Tribeca Film allowed us to bring content from the Tribeca Film Festival - the day the festival started - to our online and On Demand platforms for the first time. Our customers all over the country enjoyed the films and festival atmosphere as if they were at Tribeca in New York. No longer do you need to be in a major city or near a festival to take part in the world of independent film - we bring the content to you. Our customers have asked us for this type of content, and they've responded by watching indie films more than four million times On Demand since 2008.
We remain focused on finding ways to use our technology and reach to help filmmakers and producers get distribution to as many people as possible. In fact, earlier this year, we announced a new content storage and distribution system that is enabling us to offer significantly more content On Demand, and indie content is a large part of that. As a result of new technologies, we are currently in the process of rolling out 2,000 independent films On Demand across the country, which is a larger independent film offering than any other provider.
Today, we made another great stride with the expansion of our Indie Film Club to our On Demand service. Our new On Demand offering builds on a similar online initiative we announced earlier this year. Now our customers will have additional access to the independent film industry with a dedicated On Demand folder that will include independent films, exclusive material, movie trailers, guest editors' picks, extras, interviews and other special content. This new On Demand destination will kick off with great content from independent filmmaker, Edward Burns.
On October 26th, On Demand will debut Burns' latest film and romantic comedy, Nice Guy Johnny, the same day it is released nationally across numerous digital platforms including iTunes and DVD. In addition, Ed will also be sharing exclusive content from the film along with his favorite indie films. In the future, we will continue to highlight other filmmakers, artists and producers as well as indie content through our Indie Film Club.
It is no secret that a filmmaker's goal is to ensure that their artistic product is seen by the widest audience possible. Our Indie Film Club is a win-win for filmmakers and for consumers. Filmmakers increase their films' reach by bringing it to nearly 20 million homes and our customers get access to more indie content anytime they want it. So if you are in the mood for a movie, check out our Indie Film Club On Demand and online - and enjoy.
