Comcast Business Again the 'Fastest Riser' in Ethernet
In any type of competition – whether it’s sports, business or politics – it’s always hard to repeat a big win.
That’s why I’m so proud that for the second year in a row, Comcast Business was named the fastest growing Ethernet provider on Vertical Systems Group’s 2014 U.S. Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD, the industry’s foremost Ethernet market benchmark.
Across the board in Ethernet, we had a big 2014. We spent the year expanding our fiber network to bring competitive choice and multi-Gigabit connectivity to more businesses, including network investments in: Atlanta, Knoxville, and Salt Lake City, and across counties in Connecticut and Vermont, among other locations.
We also unveiled a new Ethernet-focused data center and cloud services program to provide customers with more efficient access to data centers and multiple cloud services and introduced Ethernet @Home, which won Best Service of the Year in North America in the 2014 Ethernet Excellence Awards – one of four awards Comcast Business won.
The expansion of our Ethernet portfolio and network reach led to new customer wins across multiple verticals, from the San Francisco 49ers and Continuum Data Centers to Cooper University Health Care and the Oakland Unified School District, and helped propel our annual revenues up 21.9% to nearly $4 billion.
As we look to 2015, we continue to see tremendous opportunity as businesses of all sizes move from T1s and other legacy technologies to Ethernet, so some key efforts will include:
Expand Network Reach – we recognize that no business wants to use a T1, they use it because they have no other choice, so we will continue to extend our fiber network to more buildings, office parks and commercial districts to bring them Ethernet.
Choice in Cloud Services – building on the program we announced last year, we plan to give customers direct Ethernet connectivity to more cloud service providers this year.
Growth Engine for Entrepreneurs – we have a long history of supporting entrepreneurs and fostering their growth, so we plan to connect more business incubators, innovation centers and co-working spaces with Ethernet to support the next generation of start-ups.
The great Vince Lombardi once said, "Individual commitment to a group effort -- that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work."
I’d like to thank every individual on our team; our partners; and most of all our customers for all of their efforts in 2014. We look forward to continued Ethernet growth throughout 2015.
