An Emmy engineering award. It's on the plane with me now.
The event was well attended and well produced, but without the glamour you may expect from the televised Emmys. The carpet was more of a black and beige than red. The only star power there was Mayim Bialik who emceed the event (better known as kid star "Blossom" and currently on the sitcom "The Big Bang"). Did you know she has a Ph. D.?
I was there to pick up an award on behalf of Comcast for our recent Xfinity TV iPhone and Android application (now over 3.5MM strong). It was an honor to have been selected, and certainly humbling...lots of tv pioneers there: Lifetime achievement to the engineer that put graphics on top of football games; we sat next to the guy that produced
the gyro-controlled camera crane for smooth, fast action filming (Ultimate Arm). Apple won an Emmy for the iPad itself, so to have received an award for an application on that device was especially rewarding.
It was a great event and I was honored to represent Comcast. While the true trophies for us are in the the hands of our customers that use the app on their iPads, I must admit some trophy fever, so we better get busy for next year.
