The Weather Channel® And Comcast Join Forces To Deliver Customized Weather Information And More To Users' Desktops
Philadelphia, PA.
The Weather Channel and Comcast today announced that they have expanded their relationship to include two co-branded desktop applications. These new applications allow users to access comprehensive weather information with one easy click. This launch makes Comcast the first company to participate in a co-branded version of The Weather Channel's premium desktop application.
Desktop Weather (available at no extra cost) and Desktop Weather Platinum (a subscription version) conveniently present timely weather details, including the current temperature for any location, through the users' system tray. Once launched by the user, the applications deliver additional details such as extended forecasts, severe weather alerts and weather-related lifestyle information. These co-branded applications, which can be downloaded at www.comcast.net, also display a button that, when clicked, delivers updates about Comcast's products and services.
Desktop Weather Platinum provides added customization options. Subscribers to this product also receive scrolling severe weather alerts, 75 local and nine regional video forecasts and an enhanced radar product that is updated every five minutes. Users can center the maps on their selected location and plot additional locations to see if approaching storms will impact them.
"We are pleased that our relationship with Comcast continues to grow and evolve," said Jody Fennell, vice president of business development for The Weather Channel Interactive. "Through these applications we will have the potential to reach Comcast.net's 5.3 million consumers who are looking for reliable weather information in a convenient, desktop format and in turn, will create a unique environment for Comcast to deliver tailored messages to its customers."
"We're very excited to expand and build upon our current online relationship with the nation's leading source of weather information," said Greg Butz, senior vice president of marketing and business development for Comcast High-Speed Internet. "With our experience in rich video and graphics and our lightning-fast speed, Comcast High-Speed Internet is the perfect provider to debut this new co-branded premium desktop application from the Weather Channel. Comcast is able to leverage its broadband expertise so that our users have immediate and convenient access to customizable weather information that is important to them. This relationship reinforces that promise for our existing Comcast.net customers and offers a compelling new incentive to sign up for high-speed Internet service."
In addition to its long-standing relationship with The Weather Channel cable network, Comcast also recently announced the inclusion of video content from The Weather Channel on "The Fan," Comcast's innovative multimedia player that is part of its enhanced broadband site. The unique weather videos are updated three times per day. Weather.com®, the popular Web site of The Weather Channel, is also featured on Comcast.net's homepage, allowing site visitors to receive updated weather conditions by simply entering a city name or zip code.
Additional products and services from The Weather Channel can be downloaded by logging on to www.weather.com/services.
