Comcast Doubles the Amount of Same-Day-As-DVD Movies On Demand with More Than 200 In 2010
Comcast announced today that it doubled the amount of movies available On Demand that were released the same day as the DVD in 2010, bringing customers more than 200 "day-and-date" movies this year alone. The company also announced that in 2010 its On Demand service reached a total of 18 billion views since it launched in 2003.
"Our customers continue to use On Demand and embrace day-and-date movies in record numbers," said Marcien Jenckes, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Comcast. "Our customers are also watching more kids programming, TV series and music On Demand than ever before, and in 2011, we will continue to bring them more entertainment choices available anytime, both On Demand and online."
Today, Comcast works with a number of major studios to bring same day as DVD movies to its customers, including: Warner Bros/New Line, Fox, Universal, Summit, Sony, MGM, Paramount, Disney/Buena Vista, DreamWorks and LionsGate. Movies available the same day as DVD release continue to rise in popularity and are consistently among the top-performing content On Demand. To date in 2010, these movies represent nine of the top ten performing movies On Demand:

Starting in 2003 with a few hundred choices, customers can now select from 25,000 entertainment choices On Demand, including 6,000 in high-definition. Over the years, On Demand views have also seen significant growth. This year, customers viewed content On Demand four billion times with an average of 350 million views on the service every month. Customers can select from new release movies, music, top TV shows and independent films to the most popular kids, sports, lifestyle and local programs available anytime, anywhere.
Comcast's 2010 day-and-date movie offering is part of the company's commitment to deliver more choice and control to its customers through its Xfinity services. Xfinity TV also offers thousands of online entertainment choices at XfinityTV.com, as well as an Xfinity TV app for iPad, iPhone and Android-powered devices that enables customers to search, discover, and soon watch and share their favorite TV shows and movies whenever and wherever they want.
