Comcast Celebrates Romance with the Debut of Dating on Demand
Philadelphia, PA.
Comcast is lending Cupid a helping hand this Valentine's Day, making it easier for singles to connect with someone special with the national launch of Dating on Demand, the first service to combine video on demand (VOD) and online dating, on February 14.
Dating on Demand (http://www.datingondemand.com) offers Comcast Digital Cable customers with VOD the opportunity to view video profiles of single men and women at any time, from the comfort and convenience of their own home. Comcast is partnering with HurryDate, a leading online and "rapid dating" events company, to help connect singles.
Dating on Demand first launched in the Philadelphia area in the summer of 2004 and since then profiles have been viewed more than one million times, making it consistently one of the most popular programs on Comcast's ON DEMAND service.
"Dating on Demand is the next wave of dating, and we're making it easy for Comcast customers across the country to be a part of it," said Page Thompson, Vice President and General Manager of ON DEMAND for Comcast. "Video on demand is changing the way people watch television, and now it's changing the way to meet people. With Dating on Demand, viewers can see the 'real' person - how they speak, learn what they they're interested in and what they're looking for in a date."
To view Dating on Demand profiles, Comcast Digital Cable customers in VOD markets can go to the ON DEMAND menu, and select Dating on Demand from the Lifestyle category. To submit a video profile, singles can attend local taping events or tape and submit their own profile. If a viewer is interested in meeting someone they see on the service, they can contact them via a HurryDate e-mail account.
On February 14, profiles of singles from the Philadelphia and Chicago areas will be available on Dating on Demand in Comcast markets across the United States. Additional profiles will be added to local markets' ON DEMAND menus featuring singles from other cities -- including Baltimore, MD; Washington, D.C.; Portland, OR; and Denver, CO -- later this spring. Complete details about Dating on Demand are available at http://www.datingondemand.com.
In addition to Dating on Demand, Comcast's ON DEMAND service features more than 2,200 programs that customers can watch at any time, including sports and fitness shows, children's programs, music videos, instructional shows, news and information programming and more.
