Comcast And Tweeter Expand HDTV Retail Program
Philadelphia, PA.
Comcast, the country's leading cable and broadband communications provider, and Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, the nation's premier specialty consumer electronics retailer, today announced that the companies plan to expand their partnership to market Comcast's high-definition television (HDTV) service at Tweeter company retail locations in ten states. The companies currently offer Comcast HDTV service in 19 stores in the greater Philadelphia area.
Beginning this month, 87 Tweeter, Sound Advice and HiFi Buys stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Tennessee will sell digital HDTV-ready sets and Comcast HDTV service, offering free basic delivery of the HDTV sets or $50 off Tweeter's deluxe delivery option. The offer is valid for new Comcast HDTV customers, including those upgrading from Comcast's analog or Digital Cable service.
"We're pleased to expand our relationship with Tweeter," said Chris Caffrey, Vice President of Retail Sales for Comcast. "Comcast is committed to making our services easy to acquire, and working with an outstanding retailer like Tweeter supports that objective by making our HDTV service available where our customers shop. It also provides an ideal environment for demonstrating how the clear, vibrant video and audio quality HDTV offers will enhance our customers' home entertainment experience."
Added Philo Pappas, Sr. Vice President of Merchandising for Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, "Our customers are passionate about music, movies and cutting-edge technology. Expanding our partnership with Comcast, a leader in deploying HDTV service, will help us deliver the high quality experience customers expect from Tweeter."
High-definition television is a new standard of television featuring dramatically improved, highly detailed picture quality and a wide-screen, theater-like display along with improved audio quality including surround sound. Images in HDTV are up to six times sharper than analog television. Movies and sports in particular demonstrate the vivid picture and sound of the TV technology.
One of the first cable companies to offer HDTV, Comcast launched it on systems in the Philadelphia market in 2001. Comcast now offers HDTV service to approximately 54% of its customers. The company's compelling HD programming line-up includes local broadcasters, PBS stations, ESPN, HBO and Showtime as well as Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.-Baltimore. In markets where Comcast offers local ABC affiliates' HD signals, viewers will be able to enjoy NFL Monday Night Football coverage in high definition as well as NFL Sunday Night Football coverage on ESPN HD.
