"We know that watching movies is one of the most popular reasons people invest in new HD home theater systems, so being able to offer this kind of package to our customers will help us deliver the great experience that they are looking for," said Chris Homeister, vice president of merchandising for home entertainment services for Best Buy. "By partnering with Comcast, who is the leader in providing HD movies to our customers, this unique package will help our customers get the right home theater, installed correctly in their home, with the right HD source to help them get the most out of their purchase."
Added Chris Caffrey, Vice President of Retail Sales for Comcast, "Best Buy shares our commitment to offer customers the best products and services for the best value. This special HD package is another example of how our long-standing relationship supports our continuing efforts to develop new ways to offer Comcast services to consumers at a time and place that's convenient for them."
Comcast offers more than 400 HD choices at any time - more than any provider today - and is expanding its lineup to more than 1,000 HD choices by the end of the year. With Comcast Preferred Digital with HD service, customers will have free access to more than 100 HD movies at any time, including movies available on Starz HD and Starz HD On Demand such as recent Hollywood blockbusters like "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," "Spider-Man 3," "Ratatouille" as well as classic library titles like "Field of Dreams," "The Sixth Sense" and "Pulp Fiction."
Customers who take this offer and add any Geek Squad home theater installation service of $149 and up will receive $100 off the installation price and a $100 Best Buy gift card by mail. The Geek Squad professionals can help consumers achieve the ultimate at home entertainment experience by handling all aspects of getting their equipment to look and sound its best in their homes.
In a recent omnibus survey commissioned by Comcast, consumers said they want to watch movies on their schedules, not by appointment viewing on linear television. When viewers were asked about their favorite things to watch in HD, 79% of people saying they "liked movies" said they prefer to watch them on their own schedule. Beginning next year, Comcast plans to offer more than 6,000 movies a month On Demand, and more than 3,000 of them will be available in HD.
Survey Methodology
The study was conducted for Comcast via EXCEL telephone omnibus by ICR, an independent research company. Interviews were conducted from 11/20/07 to 11/25/07 among a nationally representative sample of 662 adults who either own an HDTV or are interested in high definition television. The margin of error is +/- 3.8%
