50,000 Volunteers to Beautify Schools, Parks and Neighborhoods Across The Nation On The 8th Annual Comcast Cares Day
Philadelphia, PA.
On Saturday, April 25, more than 50,000 Comcast employees, their families and friends will connect with their local communities by volunteering over 300,000 hours of service to help make a difference on the eighth annual Comcast Cares Day.
During what is believed to be one of the largest single-days of corporate community service in the nation, thousands of volunteers will contribute their time and energy by planting trees at community parks, beautifying local schools, painting murals and walls, building play areas and cleaning up neighborhoods. Non-profit community organizations and local chapters of the National Urban League and the National Council of La Raza will also participate in the event across the country.
"Comcast Cares Day is an event I look forward to every year," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian L. Roberts. "It is truly a moving experience to work with thousands of our employees as they give up their free time on a Saturday to help neighbors and their communities. This year more than ever, our help is needed, and we are honored to do what we can to help each other."
Since the first Comcast Cares Day took place in 2001, 170,000 volunteers have devoted over 1 million hours of service to communities across the country. On Saturday, the 50,000 additional volunteers are expected to donate another 300,000 hours of service at more than 500 projects in 39 states and the District of Columbia, bringing the total service hours during all Comcast Cares Days to more than 1.3 million.
"Comcast Cares Day is unlike any other community investment effort in the country," said Comcast Executive Vice President, David L. Cohen. "Whether employees are in Philadelphia cleaning up and painting a school or in Denver planting trees in a community park, Comcast Cares Day is about rolling up our sleeves and pitching in. Everyone is connected on this day using our collective resources to make a difference."
For years, Comcast has partnered with the National Urban League and National Council of La Raza on a variety of projects. Comcast Cares Day is another great opportunity for our local teams to work with these great organizations, their affiliates, employees and supporters to make a difference in their communities nationwide.
"The National Urban League has a long-standing relationship with Comcast and is excited to partner again on Comcast Cares Day to improve our neighborhoods," said Marc H. Morial, President and Chief Executive Officer, National Urban League. "In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever for all of us to come together and give back to those in need. Every year, Comcast leads the charge to make a difference in communities, and we are grateful to work side-by-side such a committed company."
"NCLR and its network of affiliates are proud to join Comcast once again on this annual day of service to communities across the country," said Janet MurguĂa, President and CEO, National Council of La Raza. "The coming together of these community-based organizations and Comcast employees has led to partnerships whose impact has been felt well beyond this one important day." Since the inception of its annual day of service, the Comcast Foundation has contributed grants totaling more than $6.6 million to local community partner organizations. This year, it will once again donate significant grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year and help power the dreams of neighborhoods nationwide.
