According to a third party competitive analysis by Allion USA, Xfinity WiFi public hotspots provide the fastest Internet speeds in the country, compared to two major WiFi hotspot service providers. Allion recently conducted a test by selecting service providers based on the number of comparable outdoor WiFi hotspots available and their geographic locations within the country. Allion used a variety of six WiFi-enabled devices (laptops, mobile phones, and tablets) and tested their download and upload throughput speeds when connected to access points from the different providers at venues including cafés, restaurants, retail and outdoor locations in the downtown regions where hotspots were heavily deployed in the following cities: Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; and San Francisco, CA.
Results concluded that Xfinity WiFi hotspots, which are owned and operated by Comcast, significantly outperformed AT&T’s and Boingo Wireless’ hotspots by offering faster download speeds and up to 3x faster upload speeds. These test results further underscore our ongoing commitment to provide customers with the best and fastest Internet experience possible – no matter how and where they choose to connect.
Extending our customers’ Internet experience beyond the four walls of their house is critically important to us and that is one of the reasons why we are continuing to rollout XFINITY hotspots in different markets throughout the country. Currently, our hotspots are available in the Greater Philadelphia area, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C. area, and California, in addition to areas of New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware. The Xfinity WiFi network is available for no additional charge to our Xfinity Internet customers and it is the largest network in the country with over 250,000 hotspots. Our customers continue to use WiFi both in and out of the home to stream TV shows and movies, play games, share videos and pictures and chat with family and friends. This is why it is important for us to work hard on delivering the fastest speeds to the home, in the home and outside of the home.
