Comcast's recent launch of the Xfinity TV App for iPad has literally transformed the way hundreds of thousands of our customers interact with their televisions. Since it was introduced in mid-November, the app has been downloaded more than one million times -- highlighting our customers' desire to experience their video entertainment with even greater flexibility. They are now using iPads, iPhones, iPod touches, and even laptops and desktops to search for programming across platforms and instantly find what they want to watch, set their DVRs, and even change channels on their TVs.
Today, we're rolling out the latest development in this TV evolution. We've launched an updated version of the app, initially for the iPad, on which Xfinity TV digital customers can stream hundreds of On Demand TV programs and movies for free. Subscribers of premium networks can view top programming from HBO, SHOWTIME, Starz, Encore, Cinemax and MoviePlex. There's also hit programming from TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and BBC America. In all, there's nearly 3,000 hours of video entertainment -- hit TV shows or series such as True Blood, Dexter and Boardwalk Empire; popular films including The Hangover, An Education and The Blind Side; plus a variety of kids' programming, romantic comedies, dramas and thrillers.
The app is designed to deliver an excellent viewing experience anywhere you can access a quality WiFi connection, and we plan to launch a 3G-enabled version in an upcoming release. Plus, we'll pack the video pipeline with thousands more choices in the weeks and months ahead. Our focus for this first version of video streaming was to take advantage of the larger screen and mobile capability of the iPad, and deliver an immersive video experience. We have many enhancements and feature updates planned for the coming months, and we'll also continue to evolve the video streaming feature based on customer feedback, including extending it to more handheld devices and platforms.
