The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has named Weidong Mao, Senior Fellow at Comcast, an IEEE Fellow, for his contributions to video on demand technologies and cloud computing.  

IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select members that have achieved extraordinary accomplishments in their fields of interest. IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence. Less than 0.1% of voting IEEE members are selected annually for this prestigious honor.  

Weidong is very committed to the development of a strong IP portfolio for Comcast.  He is an inventor on many of our U.S. patents, and has a number of pending U.S. patent applications that cover an array of technology areas such as multimedia systems, network management and content delivery methods. 

Over the last decade, Comcast has been home for Weidong’s work on next-generation content delivery architecture, helping to deliver more engaging customer experiences.  His foundational architecture work to build our multicast IP video strategy, along with his deep cloud computing knowledge, particularly in the areas of intelligent cloud storage, is further positioning Comcast to rapidly innovate.  At the same time, he works to represent Comcast among standards groups across our industry.
