Identity Thief, which stars Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) as a fraudster and con artist and Jason Bateman (Arrested Development) as her unsuspecting target, claimed Hollywood's top spot in its third week of release.
The comedy took in $14.1 million this past weekend, according to estimates, for a cumulative total of $93.7 million, the largest sum from a Hollywood film this year. It has also grossed $170,000 internationally, according to the same estimates. Identity Thief marks the second big score for McCarthy and Universal Pictures, which cast the 42-year-old actress in her breakout role in the 2011 hit Bridesmaids.
