I remember watching the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships) about 10 years ago and not thinking very much of it. Since then the UFC has come a long way and the first fight I actually paid attention to wasn’t until about a year ago when Brock Lesnar fought Frank Mir. Now if you don’t know, Brock Lesnar came from WWE fame and was a newcomer to the UFC. He is about 6" 2’ and 265 lbs (probably more) He looked like he could annihilate Frank Mir with just one punch. In fact, the ref stopped Lesnar’s attack on Mir at one point to penalize him for punching Mir in the back of the head. Then at about 1 minute and 30 seconds into the fight, Frank Mir used Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to submit Brock Lesnar with a knee bar. I was impressed to see technique beat out strength.

Shortly after that fight, I started training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (which is one of the many martial arts used in the UFC). Now that I’ve been training I’ve been able to follow and enjoy the UFC. If you haven’t discovered this already, UFC is available On Demand. You can watch individual fights, full events and if you are new to the UFC you can watch the basics of Ultimate Fighting and mixed martial arts.

Also, this Saturday July 11, UFC is celebrating their 100th event featuring outstanding match ups; St.-Pierre vs Alves, Henderson vs Bisping and THE rematch between Lesnar and Mir. I’m definitely hoping that Mir can submit Lesnar again; however I might be in the minority on this one. What are your UFC 100 predictions?
