A heated rivalry and a Stanley Cup banner raising highlight NBC Sports Group’s opening night of National Hockey League coverage Wednesday, Oct. 8, part of a doubleheader airing on NBCSN.

The action begins 7:30 p.m. ET with the Boston Bruins playing host to the Philadelphia Flyers in the season’s first Wednesday Night Rivalry game. That’s followed by the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings hosting the San Jose Sharks at 10 p.m. ET, also on NBCSN. The Kings will raise their 2014 Stanley Cup banner to the STAPLES Center rafters before the puck drops on their 2014-15 campaign.

The NHL and NBC Sports Group are coming off the most-watched full regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2006. Emmy Award-winning play-by-play commentator Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick, analyst Eddie Olczyk and Emmy Award-winning ‘Inside-the-Glass’ analyst Pierre McGuire will call Flyers-Bruins from TD Garden in Boston. Dave Strader (play-by-play) and Brian Engblom (analyst) will call Sharks-Kings from Los Angeles.

Liam McHugh hosts NHL Live from Studio 2 at NBC Sports Group’s International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn., and will be joined by analysts and former NHL players Mike Milbury and Keith Jones.

In addition, the action continues Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on NBCSN when the Minnesota Wild host the Colorado Avalanche in a playoff rematch.
