It is hard to believe that it has been a full year since we kicked off the first minority-focused track of the DreamIt Ventures Access accelerator program in Philadelphia. Since then, with the investment and commitment of Comcast and Comcast Ventures, we have launched nine minority-led startups with another group of five to be launched at Demo Day in Philadelphia on December 5, 2012.
Over the past 12 months, we have seen entrepreneurs create new companies focused on mobile services, news and information, B2B real estate analytics, and Ecommerce. We have also seen the positive impact that providing opportunities can have on building successful companies.
We are now at 14 new companies and counting. Our previous classes continue to build their companies according to their respective visions, and we are proud to announce our newest class, which includes:
Altair Prep − Philadelphia, PA: Dynamic, performance-based homework platform to analyze learning trends and customize curricula.
brandREP.me − Los Angeles, CA: Crowdsourcing brand marketing campaigns to student brand advocates.
CloudConfidence − Philadelphia, PA: Analytics-driven cloud monitoring and management platform.
mor.sl - Washington, DC: A personalized recipe recommendation platform based on your tastes, allergies and cooking skill.
TripKno − New York, NY: Social, e-commerce travel guide that modernizes the way travelers find things to do.
We had an amazing kickoff event with this new class on September 7 (pictured). Intense working sessions and meetings with the DreamIt partners followed that event and now we are ready to host experienced entrepreneurs to share lessons learned with this new group of business and technology leaders. It is amazing to see how quickly the intensity level cranks up with the program, and I can't wait to see the end results.
