On February 20, 2014, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce presented Comcast NBCUniversal with the Chamber’s 2014 Diversity & Inclusion Award. They spoke with our Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion, Maria G. Arias, about our diversity and inclusion programs, including a look at what's ahead for diversity and inclusion in the next five years.

GPCC: What workforce trends do you see emerging in the next three to five years when it comes to diversity and inclusion?

MA: Over the next few years, our workforce – and the labor force in general – will continue to diversify, reflecting the rapidly-changing demographics of our nation. For example, Census figures indicate that people of color will represent half of the U.S. population by 2050. At the same time, many employers will be managing a multi-generational employee base as younger workers enter the workforce to replace a growing number of retirees. Millennial employees entering today’s market are among the most educated, tech savvy, and ethnically diverse generation in history. In light of our nation’s rapidly-changing demographics, embracing diversity is critical to the success of our business.
