Today, Comcast is excited to announce the addition of the 4G/3G Mobile Hotspot (also known as a MiFi device) to its Xfinity Internet 2go line up of devices that can deliver fast broadband speeds everywhere you want to go. This new, industry-leading 4G/3G Mobile Hotspot is another wireless option for our customers.
What is it? It's a compact personal WiFi router that uses our Xfinity Internet 2go service to create a portable and instant WiFi Hotspot for all of your WiFi-enabled devices no matter your location. The MiFi® 4082 by Novatel Wireless uses the 4G and 3G networks for connectivity to the Internet and converts these signals to WiFi so that any of your WiFi devices can connect (up to 5 devices at one time) and get Internet access. The service works with any WiFi-enabled device, including laptops, smartphones, iPads, e-readers, cameras, etc.
While our Xfinity Internet 2go service offers USB data cards, which plug into the USB port of a laptop, the Mobile Hotspot doesn't need a PC and will connect any WiFi-enabled device to the Internet. This is a very useful gadget because if you're like me, when I'm on the go sometimes I need instant, secure WiFi access. I don't like the inconvenience of having to search for public WiFi or having to stay in one location with WiFi like a noisy coffee shop. The 4G/3G Mobile Hotspot lets me connect to the Internet virtually whenever and wherever I like.
Another cool thing about the Mobile Hotspot is that you can share your wireless Internet connection with your family and friends. So if you're on a family vacation or traveling to a meeting, you can all easily get online or connect and watch TV or movies.
