Let’s begin with a startling fact…when Comcast took over the California cable systems from AT&T back in 2002, less than 50% of the Bay Area had access to our broadband high-speed internet service, including the heart of Silicon Valley, San Jose.
Since Comcast came to town, we’ve invested millions of dollars to establish an advanced fiber-optic network. Today, we’ve reached another major milestone in our quest to provide the best high speed internet service to our customers in California — the launch of our "wideband" service with the availability of 50/10 and 22/5 speeds in 76 more communities, bringing the fastest wideband service available to all of our customers in the Bay Area. The Bay Area is home to a wide range of internet innovators, from entrepreneurs to gamers, businesspeople to content creators, and I have no doubt that we’ll see increased innovation from all of these groups as they take advantage of our faster upload and download speeds.
While I’m proud of the tremendous progress we’ve made in a relatively short period of time, we’re not going to rest on our laurels. We know first-hand how important speed and reliability is to the thousands of high-tech employees throughout California who count on us to provide their homes and small businesses with internet access. We’re up for the challenge. Next stop: the expansion of wideband service into Central California.
