Comcast’s hometown, Philadelphia, is celebrating its tech community this week as hundreds of local technologists, start-up leaders, entrepreneurs, programmers, and business and civic leaders convene to take part in Philly Tech Week. This annual celebration of innovation has grown significantly since it was launched four years ago by Technical.ly Philly, and it recognizes our city as a growing technology hub in the U.S.
At Comcast, we often think of ourselves as Philadelphia’s original start-up, and we take pride in the fact that we have maintained a true start-up culture and entrepreneurial spirit over the years. Just this year, we announced the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center, an economic commitment to the city and an investment in the future of innovation here.
Comcast is committed to Philadelphia’s growth in the technology sector, which is why we are involved as a sponsor and event participant throughout this year’s Philly Tech Week. We recently hosted guests at Comcast Labs during the Philly Tech Week Innovation Tour, an event to highlight the groundbreaking work being done in our City’s multiplying technology centers including Penn School of Engineering and Applied Science, NextFab Studio and Indy Hall. Also, I’m on a panel on Thursday, April 10 here at Comcast. Hosted by Philadelphia Public Relations Association, it will explore Philly’s tech economy, its players, and opportunities for synergy between the city’s tech and PR communities.
Finally, on Friday, April 11, we will be host to the Philly Tech Week Signature Event. This "closing ceremony" is an interactive technology expo and demo party drawing hundreds of attendees. It will be held in the Comcast Center lobby and patio where one of world’s largest highest resolution LED displays, the 83’ x 25’ Comcast Experience video wall is located.
