Eight years ago, Hands On Greater Portland was looking to further their mission of connecting local Portland residents to their community by having one day where their group and volunteers completed service projects. Comcast was also planning a volunteer day for their employees. A beautiful partnership began when the two organizations came together and aligned visions for a big day of service by partnering up for Comcast Cares Day. The relationship has continued and this year during the 10th Comcast Cares Day, the groups will mobilize 1,700 volunteers at more than 30 projects in the metro Portland area.
The relationship between Hands On Greater Portland and Comcast is a great example of a partnership that not only meets our individual business needs but supports the community in the process. In addition to Comcast Cares Day, Comcast supports Hands On Greater Portland through other events and initiatives and a Comcast employee even serves on our board of directors. Comcast has helped Hands On Greater Portland to emerge as the volunteer action center for the greater Portland area and grow from an organizations making 5,000 volunteer connections a year to one that now makes over 25,000. We value our relationship with Comcast — through all of our efforts in getting local residents involved in volunteerism efforts, we too are helping to power dreams in our communities.
