Comcast’s philanthropic activities – which we call "community investment" – literally touch the lives of thousands – from creating new jobs and opportunities for individuals, to supporting the economy in cities and towns across the nation, to providing scholarships for young people to attend college. We have recently released our new Community Investment Report, which illustrates the commitment Comcast and its employees have to the communities we serve.

Since our founding in 1963, our roots have been firmly planted in the local communities in which our employees live and work. We believe our responsibility to these communities does not end with simply delivering the most innovative services and superior customer experience. We sum up our approach to community investment in one simple phrase: We power dreams in our communities. Our efforts are focused on three key priorities of promoting community service, expanding digital literacy, and building tomorrow’s leaders. Consider these examples:

  • Community Service. Comcast Cares Day 2009, our annual nationwide day of service, attracted more than 60,000 employees, family members, friends, community partners and public officials to over 600 community service projects across the country. These volunteers delivered more than 360,000 hours of service to communities in need.
  • Digital Literacy. The Comcast Digital Connectors program, in partnership with One Economy, trains young adults to effectively use broadband and digital tools to benefit their communities as well as their own futures.
  • Tomorrow’s Leaders. Comcast’s signature Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program awards graduating seniors on the basis of academics as well as community service. We also provide unparalleled real world experiences through internship programs with the Emma L. Bowen Foundation, T. Howard Foundation and others.

Comcast has invested more than $1.8 billion in cash and in-kind support since 2001 for the company’s non-profit partners. Our partners include highly effective organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, City Year, One Economy, United Way, National Urban League, National Council of La Raza, and many more.

The Report will give you a sense of Comcast’s year-round commitment to power dreams in our communities. We are devoted to continuing the legacy of giving fostered by our founder, Ralph J. Roberts. We’re grateful to our employees for serving and we’re proud to partner with organizations that are truly making a difference.
