Many people don’t realize that Comcast is in a joint partnership with Comcast-Spectacor, the division of Comcast that owns the Philadelphia 76ers basketball team and the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team. These teams provide terrific content for our customers in the Greater Philadelphia Region. Additionally, Comcast-Spectacor owns the arena (Wachovia Center) where the teams play and Comcast is also involved in selling tickets at ComcastTIX.com for events in Philadelphia.
But there’s so much more under the Comcast-Spectacor umbrella, including Global Spectrum, a public assembly facility management firm. What does a "public assembly facility firm" do? Global Spectrum operates (or shall we say "manages") arenas, stadiums, convention centers and theatres throughout North America. We even manage one in Split, Croatia. Okay, still, what does that mean? Global Spectrum handles the day-to-day operations of these venues. Our company schedules the events, books the shows, works closely with the team(s) that play in the venues. We ensure top-quality entertainment to our guests. What are some of the venues we manage? In Philadelphia, we manage the Wachovia Center and the Spectrum (speaking of which, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus is performing at the Spectrum until Monday, May 25. A great chance for families to share in the memories of the Spectrum before it closes at the end of 2009). We also manage the Liacouras Center at Temple University and Citizens Bank Park, home of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. We also manage the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ, which recently hosted the NCAA West Regionals.
Here on Comcast Voices, we’ll update you on some cool happenings at some of our venues.
