This year marks my 25th anniversary with Comcast and I feel very proud to have watched this company grow from a small regional operation to what is now one of the leading communications and entertainment companies in the world.
When I joined Comcast, I was the first Hispanic executive in the company. Back then, we didn't serve any city with a large Hispanic population, and we had very few Spanish-speaking customers because at that time the Spanish-language programming on cable was limited.
One of the most gratifying experiences I've had at Comcast is watching our Spanish-speaking customer base grow exponentially, both here in Southern Florida and across the nation. We now deliver our customers more than 50 channels and 700 On Demand choices in Spanish and over 500 Spanish language choices online through Xfinity TV in Spanish. That's more than any of our competitors offer.
And now, Comcast is taking the next step in serving the Hispanic community — the fastest growing minority in the country — with the creation of the new Spanish-language Center of Excellence in Miramar, Florida.
Over the next several months, we will open a new 300-person Center of Excellence that will handle Spanish-language sales calls from all over the country. This new facility will house a highly trained and specialized professional sales team that will focus on ways we can address the needs of Hispanic consumers and will also function as a think tank seeking new ways to serve this important community.
One of the hallmarks of Comcast is innovation. Comcast changes quickly with market demands, and creating this new Center focused on improving the sales experience for all of our Spanish-speaking customers is in line with that philosophy.
I've always felt a sense of pride working for Comcast. For me, it is personally rewarding to see how Comcast has evolved to serve the Hispanic community and to witness how our operations are truly responding to the diverse customer base we serve. Opening the doors of the Spanish-language Center of Excellence to the country allows us all to showcase that spirit of excellence each and every one us at Comcast strives to display every day.
