Each year, Comcast and NBCUniversal employees rally around our communities by supporting United Way, and this October we had the strongest effort in our company’s history. Through our annual employee giving campaign, our employees pledged nearly $6.4 million to United Way. Not only did we break our company record for dollars pledged, with year-over-year, double-digit growth, we also had record-breaking employee participation. 

Combined with matching Comcast Foundation grants, our campaign will provide almost $8 million next year to local United Ways and affiliate organizations across the country – taking us beyond $50 million in total historic support to United Way. This is an incredible milestone as we celebrate Comcast’s 50th anniversary year.   

Mobilizing our workforce to support United Way is a grassroots effort, led by our Community Investment team and hundreds of employees who volunteer as campaign leaders for their offices and departments. 

In addition to their leadership, a key reason our United Way campaign ranks among the Top 50 corporate campaigns in the country is because our employees volunteer to share their personal connections to United Way, putting a face on where our dollars go

One of the employees featured in this year’s campaign was Marilyn L. Brewer (pictured above), a customer account executive from Oak Brook, Ill., who received support from United Way to help her family recover after a devastating house fire. 

Comcast employees in the call center where Marilyn works rallied around her inspiring story, pledging over $23,000, more than 20 percent over the prior year. 

"I never realized the impact that I would have on my peers," Marilyn said after the campaign. "Employees that know me and heard my story were more willing to make a pledge this year. The campaign has meant pure excitement for me." I truly believe this effort to personalize the need for United Way dollars helps our campaign get bigger and better each year. United Way was the first community organization that Comcast Founder Ralph Roberts selected as a community partner, and we’re excited to continue to embrace his vision by supporting our neighbors, and employees, in need.
