Today, Comcast NBCUniversal made the exciting announcement that the company is committed to hiring 10,000 reservists, veterans and military spouses and domestic partners over the next three years. That’s in addition to the approximately 4,200 reservists and veterans that we’ve hired since 2012. Now, that’s something to be proud of!
Our service men and women are known for their leadership, dedication, teamwork and ethics, and Comcast NBCUniversal shares those values. The company has a strong history of supporting veterans dating back to Comcast’s Founder, Ralph Roberts, who served a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Navy. Today, we have veterans and reservists working across all levels of the company — from the C-suite to the service center — in a variety of positions, including network engineering, technology, operations, theme parks and resorts, programming, customer service, marketing, human resources, and other careers.
I am also thrilled that we’ve created a new role within Comcast NBCUniversal that is 100% dedicated to supporting our company’s programs and outreach engaging the military and veteran community. The new Head of Military and Veterans Initiatives will work collaboratively across Comcast NBCUniversal to provide strategic leadership to all aspects of programs and outreach engaging the military and veteran community. In addition to leading our military hiring initiatives and bringing the best veteran talent to the organization, the role will also implement our new military policies, work closely with our Community Investment team on grants that are given to veteran non-profit organizations, collaborate with Universal Parks and Resorts on discounts and other military benefits, and expand business opportunities for veteran-owned businesses through our Business Services and supplier diversity teams, in addition to many other responsibilities.
I am excited to welcome these new military hires to our Comcast NBCUniversal family, and I have no doubt that they will add tremendous value to our team.
