According to the Labor Department's annual American Time Use Survey, Americans' top hobby remains watching TV. In fact, watching TV was the leisure activity that occupied the most time (2.8 hours per day), accounting for more than half of leisure time, on average, for those age 15 and over.
It’s clear that television continues to play an important role in the lives of all Americans. As the country’s largest pay-TV provider, we’re proud to give our more than 20 million Xfinity TV customers an unparalleled mix of live, On Demand and for-purchase TV choices.Whether it’s daily news and sports programming like The Today Show and the 2014 World Cup, or episodes of hit shows like Game of Thrones, Mad Men and The Big Bang Theory, we continue to not only add quality TV to our platform but also make it available anytime, anywhere.
For many TV fans, watching starts in the living room. With our newest technology, the X1 platform, viewers now have simple, fast and intuitive search and discovery of the hundreds of live channels we offer, letting customers find more of the programs they love. Just recently, we’ve incorporated a "What’s Trending" feature that puts the familiar Twitter logo next to a show to tell viewers it’s something that’s currently trending.
But X1 isn’t limited to the living room. With the new X1 DVR with cloud technology, you can watch live, saved or On Demand programming in any room in the house across any device, or even download your recordings to take on the go.
And increasingly, people are watching TV outside their homes: on the bus, in the car or in a park. The New York Times recently said that tv everywhere is "…growing much faster than other online video sources like YouTube, Hulu or Daily Motion," and our data agrees. Across the industry, tv everywhere viewing rose 246 percent over last year and Comcast now offers more than 50 live TV channels and 25,000 on demand titles through the Xfinity TV Go app and more than 350,000 choices online.
Finally, in addition to live programming, we have the most robust video on demand platform in the world. With more than 55,000 choices – which now include the top 100 Nielsen rated TV shows – we see about 400 million On Demand plays every month. And for those who want to buy their favorite titles to own and enjoy across devices, our new digital store features great TV shows like Pretty Little Liars, 24 and Graceland and we’re adding new titles every day. We’re excited to be able to provide Xfinity TV customers with tons of the best content available and the flexibility to watch it where and when they want.
